American Bulldog / Pit Mix
Age: 3 years
Adoption Fee: $125 (includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations)
Annie was found by a good Samaritan in San Lorenzo who tried to find her owner, but ended up having to take her to the East County Animal Shelter in Dublin. The shelter’s vet determined that Annie most likely had a torn cruciate ligament (ACL) that would require surgery. Even though she was one of the sweetest dogs to come through the shelter, given that she was a pitbull mix that needed very expensive surgery, she was scheduled to be euthanized. The original finder reached out to us for help.
We pulled her into foster care, confirmed with our vet the shelter’s suspicion about her knee, then scheduled her surgery. She was on restricted cage rest for weeks during her post-op period.
Through all her vet care, Annie remains sweet as honey. Folks who have fostered her, commented that she is a little “needy” always wanting anyone’s attention and cuddles, but she hasn’t shown any behaviors to suggest separation anxiety. She can be left alone during day with no issues. She is fine with other dogs, would probably do well with cats. On a leash, she is a tank. With her low profile and very strong legs, she goes where she wants to go and could easily pull the over the person on the other end of the leash. A special harness (”Easy Lead”) would be recommended for walks.
