Casper’s original name was “Ghost.” He was dumped at the Berkeley Shelter in March by his family. He had been living with a young adult who wasn't home much so he was alone most of the time. He was shy and skittish with the shelter staff, but they made him available for adoption. In May a single guy adopted him, but then turned around and gave the dog to his girlfriend who had young children. Casper was not approved for families with young kids. He became too mouthy with the kids and they returned him to the shelter, where he was placed on the list to be euthanized. We pulled him into foster care.
Although Casper is initially shy in new situations (new people, new home, new dogs, etc.) he comes around quickly. He loves to cuddle with his humans and sleep under the covers at night. He likes being chased around the yard by the other dogs in his foster home. He is submissive with other dogs and is good with both large and small dogs. As a puppy, he can get mouthy during play with people, but that is easily corrected. He has been known to chase a few cats.
Casper is potty trained using a dog door. He is a quick learner and knows sit, shake, down and rollover. He likes to play fetch and will drop his toy for a treat. He is quiet and not destructive when left home alone and enjoys working on a frozen Kong food toy. He has been working on his manners and needs continued training in that area when he gets adopted.
Casper should do well in a home with another confident dog around his size with whom he can play and bond. Cats are probably not a good idea.
